Side Tables
Decor blogger Yvonne Pratt hit the nail on the head when she wrote: "Side tables are a lot like the side-dishes of the decorating world. They are not the main course of a room like a sofa or a coffee table, but act as a very important part of it!” As with all table related decisions, the tables must match its chosen function. In formal or little-used rooms where the side table isn’t really used for much more than an artful display, a delicate piece is perfect. However, in the family home, a side table needs to be practical, easily cleaned, and large enough for a lamp, a drink, a book or magazine, and the accumulation of bits and pieces that make their way to this, the handiest of surfaces. Height is crucial and rule-of-thumb states that a side table should be equal to, or slightly lower to the arm of the seat it is next to. This is both a practical and an aesthetic rule, as it helps create a smooth visual flow to the room. Of course, this changes with armless chairs, as it does with the use of nesting side-tables. Our team will happily advise you in creating the correct flow for your setting. For added practicality, some of our pieces have drawers or shelves which are perfect for extra storage and a place for the 101 things that you need at hand, but not in your sightline.
