Console Tables
What we now call the console table has its roots Louis XV’s France when narrow tables became the characteristic furniture piece of the time. Happily, the console table has evolved into an extremely functional, yet decorative staple in any room. Console tables are multifunctional necessities in the home. Placed against a wall in a reception room or hallway it can be the anchor for a feature mirror or large artwork. In a small dining room, it makes the perfect serving station for buffet meals. Place one behind a sofa and it becomes a ‘sofa table’, ideal for a lamp, or arrangement. In the smaller bedroom it can be used as a dressing table, or even a vanity in a large bathroom. The uses are totally dependent on your imagination. Do remember to take careful consideration when choosing a console table for an entrance or hallway. This will be the first piece seen when welcoming guests, and as such, is the opening sentence to the story of your home.
